Public Health Officials Urge Everyone to Follow Guidance for Holidays

As we approach Thanksgiving, public health officials are urging residents to follow their guidance for the holidays to help slow the spread of COVID-19.

The CDC says the safest way to celebrate Thanksgiving this year is at home with the people you live with. And Iowa Governor Kim Reynolds’ latest proclamation limits indoor gatherings to 15 or fewer people to help minimize the spread of the virus. The governor – who will not be celebrating the holiday with her children or grandchildren this year – reminded Iowans in her press conference yesterday that we may need to make some personal sacrifices this Thanksgiving and hold off on the family gatherings.

Linn County Public Health is also urging residents to consider these recommendations. They say the risk of being exposed to COVID-19 increases dramatically when people spend time indoors with others from different households. Public Health says a moderate risk situation would be having a small outdoor dinner with no more than ten family and friends who live in your community. And the situation that brings the lowest risk of spreading COVID-19 is having a small dinner only with people who live in your household or having a virtual dinner with family and friends.
