Delaware County’s COVID-19 Case Count Update

The number of active COVID-19 cases in Delaware County continues to go down.

Delaware County Public Health announced Monday morning that the current active case count is 323 – down 120 from last Monday. It’s the third week in a row Delaware County has seen a decrease in active cases.

However, the number of deaths has gone up this week. The Iowa Department of Public Health reports five more Delaware County residents died this past week, bringing the total number of residents lost to COVID to 27.

Three Delaware County residents are currently hospitalized.

Delaware County has tallied 1,550 positive cases since the pandemic began, including 49 new cases this past week. Over nine percent of Delaware County’s population has tested positive.

Delaware County’s positivity rate is also down again this week – sitting at 12.7% compared to 14.2% last Monday.

Delaware County Public Health says it has been good to see numbers reducing – however, they say they still need everyone to remain vigilant and continue with the mitigation measures to slow the spread, especially as we move into another holiday season. Avoid gatherings of more than 15 people, keep six feet distance from others, wear a face mask in public, stay home when able, wash your hands frequently, stay home when you’re ill (even mildly sick) and get your flu shot.
