Governor Reynolds Relaxes Some COVID-19 Restrictions

As hundreds of Iowa healthcare workers have been vaccinated this week and new COVID-19 case numbers are slowing — along with hospitalizations, Governor Kim Reynolds is making adjustments to her Disaster Emergency Proclamation.

Starting Thursday, restrictions on businesses will be relaxed, but the governor says Iowans will need to maintain their safety efforts and be responsible.

And while some restrictions are being lifted, Governor Reynolds encourages Iowans to be responsible as we head into the holidays.

While Iowa WAS in the top five nationally, she says the state now ranks 35th and 36th in terms of new cases and average daily counts – and hospitalizations for COVID are now half what they were in mid-November.

The Pfizer vaccine started its Phase 1-A distribution to healthcare workers and long term care facility residents across the state this week. If Moderna’s vaccine is approved for emergency use by the FDA on Thursday, Governor Reynolds expects that vaccine to start arriving in Iowa next week.
