There are one hundred kids across Delaware County who now have a bed to sleep in thanks to Sleep in Heavenly Peace.
Sleep in Heavenly Peace is nationwide effort to build beds for kids who don’t have one – and local banker Keith Kramer started a chapter in Delaware County last year. Kramer tells KMCH that he hoped they could build and deliver 50 beds within their first year – but since July, they’ve more than doubled that goal, reaching 100 beds this week.
And they’ll be adding Dyersville and Worthington to their coverage area, while the Jones County’s Sleep in Heavenly Peace chapter is adding Cascade.
Kramer says they couldn’t do anything of this without the community’s support – and it has been overwhelmingly in this first year.
If you’d like to help, you can contact Keith at F&M Bank or through the Sleep in Heavenly Peace Delaware County Facebook page. Any checks can be made out to Sleep in Heavenly Peace and mailed to or dropped off at F&M Bank in Manchester.
And volunteers to help build beds are always welcome too – no experience needed. Kramer says a Build Beds Day was just held Tuesday night, with more build days planned for March in the town of Delaware and at some point in Dyersville too. He says they won’t stop until every child in Delaware County has a bed to sleep in.
And he says the smiles and hugs from those kids when they climb into their bed for the first time makes it all worth it.
