Linn County Man Arrested for Neglecting Cattle

A Linn County man has been arrested on charges of animal neglect.

The Linn County Sheriff’s Office says two weeks ago, they received a complaint of neglected cattle on a property in rural Lisbon at 81 Linn Ridge Road. When deputies arrived, they discovered numerous dead cattle on the property.

An investigation determined that the Angus beef cattle were being neglected of shelter and care. Deputies and a local veterinarian tried working with the owner (who did not live at the property) to make sure the remaining cattle were properly cared for, but after checking back, several more cattle were found dead.

The Sheriff’s Office executed a search warrant a few days later and rescued eighteen head of cattle from the property. The Iowa Farm Animal Care organization, the Iowa Beef Industry Council and the Iowa Cattlemen’s Association assisted the Sheriff’s Office with finding a new location for the cattle and bringing them there.

The owner of the cattle, 43-year old Brian Greazel of Mount Vernon, was arrested on a warrant Wednesday. Greazel has been charged with Livestock Neglect Resulting in Death.
