HS BOYS STATE BASKETBALL: Monday Results and Tuesday Preview

The 98th Boys Basketball State Tournament began yesterday inside Wells Fargo Arena in Des Moines. Class 1A Quarterfinals were the first to hit the court. The top-ranked North Linn Lynx improved to 26-0 with a 77-52 victory over South Winneshiek. The game featured 2 ties and 1 lead change. Sophomore Tate Haughenbury led the Lynx with 19 points, Austin Hilmer and Dylan Kurt both had 13, 12 for Ben Wheatley, Cade Haughenbury with 7, 5 for Kaleb Kurt and Ty Pflughaupt had 3.  It was the 12th win in the 17th game at State for the Lynx program. North Linn advances to the semifinals for the 5th time in a row and 6th time in their 7th appearance all-time. They will face Martensdale-St. Mary’s Wednesday night at 6:00.

Montezuma 64, Lake Mills 61 (OT)

Grand View Christian 54, St. Mary’s, Remsen 49

Class 2A Quarterfinals

Coming up on Day No. 2 today we’ll have 3 KMCH Sports coverage area teams playing, 2A play continues to start off the day. The 16-7 Beckman Blazers are the 6th-seed and go up against the 3rd-seed 21-2 Des Moines Christian. For the Blazers it’s their 6th trip to State and first since 2007. All the action live on Mix 94.7 around 9:50 this morning with Sports Director Jon Swisher and Bill Logan

Noon —#2 Western Christian, Hull vs. #7 Camanche

Class 3A Quarterfinals

2:00—#1 Ballard vs. #8 Clear Lake

4:00—#4 Dallas Center-Grimes vs. #5 Assumption, Davenport

We’ll be back on around 5:50 for a 6:00 tip-off as the 18-4 Western Dubuque Bobcats, the 3rd-seed face #6 Sergeant Bluff-Luton. The Bobcats back at State for the fourth time and first since 2012.

And the final game of the day will be the 22-0 Monticello Panthers taking on Pella at 8:00. The 4th trip for the Panthers and second in a row, the first in Class 3A.
