Manchester City Council Meeting Recap

The Manchester City Council held a public last night on the proposed budget for next fiscal year. The Council adopted the budget, which sets the levy rate at $15.58 per $1,000 of taxable value – that’s an increase of 26 cents from last year.

The City Council also heard a request from Regional Medical Center, who would like the City to cost share a project. RMC is reconstructing the paving at the 7th Street entrance and parking area adjacent to the hospital. The Council approved covering the cost for the curb and gutter area along Denton Park, with RMC picking up the rest of the cost.

Several engineering agreements were also approved for upcoming projects in Manchester. The biggest project will be next summer on East Main Street from McCarren Drive to Stiles Street. City Manager Tim Vick says that will be a major project that will take all summer.

The approximate cost for those three engineering agreements is around $155,000.

And the City Council also granted a request from Jeremy Hempstead for a special exception to the City’s livestock restrictions. Hempstead would like to put a small chicken coop with four chickens in his backyard at 728 East Butler Street. The Council approved his request. Several other Manchester residents in the past have also been allowed to have chickens upon asking.
