A power pole was sheered off to the ground in an accident near Petersburg early Sunday.
It happened east of town on C-64 near 310th Avenue shortly after midnight. The Delaware County Sheriff’s Office says one of their deputies found a pickup truck with damage to its front end in a farm field at that intersection shortly before 1 am.
The Sheriff’s Office says it appears the truck went into the ditch and then struck the utility pole about 100 yards away. A culvert appeared to have been clipped by the truck as well. The power pole was sheared off at the ground, but the wires were still up.
The vehicle was totaled, with around $10,000 damage to Alliant Energy’s utility pole and line.
The deputy contacted the owner of the truck, who said he left the truck parked across from the bar in Petersburg that night. He said the keys were left inside and the doors were unlocked. Authorities have not released the owner’s name.
No charges have been filed.
