The Dyersville Area Relay for Life is honoring and remembering those with cancer in a different way this year.
In a typical year, the luminaries are white paper bags decorated with the names of a cancer survivor or a loved one lost to cancer. The bags, lit with a candle, would cast a light glow in the darkness as they lined the track and people walked by.
But since this year’s Relay for Life will be a virtual event, the luminaries will be on display at people’s homes in the form of a yard sign.
Committee member Cindy Willenborg says the yard signs will be a keepsake you can display all year round if you’d like.
You can drive around the community and search for the luminaries once they’re on display, but Willenborg says the best way to view them will actually be online.
The luminaries cost ten dollars. They’re available at the Dyersville Carquest, MidwestOne Bank’s Highway 136 office, Fidelity Bank’s main bank and the Dyersville Chamber.
