Former Ryan Woman Found Guilty of Murdering Husband in 2011

A former Ryan woman has been found guilty of murdering her husband ten years ago.

On Friday, a Clayton County jury convicted 52-year old Revette Sauser of First Degree Murder in the shooting death of Terry Sauser at their Ryan home in 2011.

Sauser accepted a plea deal before her trial was set to start in 2012, pleading guilty to second-degree kidnapping, voluntary manslaughter and going armed with intent – with the murder charged dropped as part of that plea deal. She was sentenced to 40 years in prison.

Sauser served about nine years in prison before the Supreme Court sent her case back for an actual trial after she appealed that there was no factual basis for the kidnapping charge.

Sauser pleaded not guilty to the First Degree Murder charge, with the defense saying that she got out the gun in self-defense and accidentally shot her husband. Prosecutors argued that she planned to kill her husband out of anger and jealousy, adding that she bought the gun weeks before she shot him.

A First Degree Murder conviction carries an automatic sentence of life in prison without parole. Sentencing has been set for June 1st.
