A Manchester man will be running across the state over the next week in honor of his fallen co-workers.
Ryan Miller works as a correctional officer at the Anamosa State Penitentiary – and he says he wanted to do something to raise awareness and money for the families of fellow officer Robert McFarland and correctional nurse Lorena Schulte.
McFarland and Schulte lost their lives in a tragic incident at the prison on March 23rd when two inmates trying to escape attacked them – and another inmate – with a hammer.
Miller will start his journey of running across Iowa this Friday in Sioux City, running about forty miles a day.
Miller’s journey will take him through Manchester next Thursday, June 10th – and he welcomes anyone to come out and run with him at any point along the way. He’ll also be passing through Independence, Winthrop, Masonville and Earlville next Thursday, as well as Dyersville, Farley, Epworth and Peosta next Friday, June 11th.
If you’d like more information about Miller’s Run Across Iowa or would like to donate to the cause, you can go online to his website at visionrunner.org.
Miller has a goal of raising $20,000 for the families of Robert McFarland and Lorena Schulte – and he’s almost halfway there, with nearly $9,000 raised so far.
