Charles E. “Chuck” Savago – Masonville

Charles E. “Chuck” Savago, 77, of rural Masonville, Iowa, died on Wednesday evening, July 14, 2021, at Unity Point – St. Luke’s Hospital in Cedar Rapids from complications of heart surgery.

Memorial Mass of Christian Burial: 10:30 A.M. Tuesday, July 20, 2021, at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, Masonville, Iowa, with Rev. Gabriel Anderson officiating.

Visitation:  5:00 to 7:00 P.M. Monday at the Fawcett-Schmitz Funeral Home in Winthrop and for one hour before the service at the church on Tuesday.

Scripture Service:  4:30 P.M. Monday at the funeral home.

Final Resting Place: St. Mary Catholic Cemetery, Masonville, Iowa.

Charles Edward Savago, also known as “Bub”, was born on January 12, 1944, in Seneca, Kansas, the son of Lawrence Edward & Eileen Elizabeth (Buser) Savago.  The family lived in Corning, Kansas, before moving to rural Winthrop in 1948.  Chuck received his education from the Winthrop School.   He helped on the farm and worked at several places including the Standard Station in Winthrop and Wallace’s Implement in Manchester.  Chuck married Kaye Dawn Mendenhall on January 16, 1965.  One son, Jimmy, was born to this union.  Chuck and Kaye later divorced.  Chuck then farmed and established Chuck’s Repair in Masonville and he was also co-owner of Winthrop Sales & Service for several years.  He enjoyed anything car or tractor related.

Chuck is survived by his Close Companion: Edna Rivers of Winthrop;

Brother: Ronald (Nancy) Savago of Ryan;

3 Sisters:  JoAnn (Jim) Enos of Stockton, Illinois,

Janice Rice (Mike Grace) of Elberon &

Valda (LaVern) Schaul of Masonville and

Several Nieces & Nephews, including Bob, Larry & Michael, who spent a lot of time with Chuck in the shop.

 

Chuck was preceded in death by his parents, son: Jimmy on December 6, 1972, his grandparents and many aunts and uncles.
