Delaware County Public Health Urging COVID Vaccinations, Recommending Masks Indoors

Masks are being recommended once again in public indoor settings in Delaware County.

Delaware County Public Health Supervisor Krystle DeShaw says COVID-19 cases are rising in the county as the new Delta variant becomes the dominant strain across the country.

Delaware County is among six local counties experiencing high transmission levels of COVID-19.

DeShaw says because of the high transmission level now in Delaware County, Public Health is following recommendations recently announced by the CDC.

But DeShaw says this doesn’t mean masks are mandatory.

DeShaw says this new Delta variant is leading to more interest in COVID vaccinations among Delaware County residents. Currently, 52% of Delaware County residents ages 12 and over have been vaccinated. She says that’s really encouraging, but they’re asking residents who have not yet been vaccinated to reconsider.

Delaware County Public Health will be hosting a walk-in COVID-19 vaccination clinic next Wednesday, August 11th from 2 to 4 pm at RMC’s East Office Building in Manchester. No appointment is necessary. The two-dose Pfizer vaccine will be administered, so anyone 12 and older is eligible to get the shot (with the second shot to be given on September 1st). Go to RMC’s website to print out the consent form and bring it with you that day. And anyone under 18 will need a parent or guardian with them.
