A Manchester city councilmember is running for mayor.
Connie Behnken made the announcement at the end of Monday night’s council meeting.
Behnken is the first candidate to step forward in Manchester’s mayoral race. The seat will be left vacant at the end of this year after longtime Mayor Milt Kramer announced two weeks ago he will not seek re-election in November. Kramer has served as mayor since 1974.
Behnken is currently serving as mayor pro-tem for the City of Manchester. She has served on the City Council for over a decade and was honored with the City’s First Citizen Award three years ago.
Behnken’s run for mayor means there will be a vacant seat on the Manchester City Council.
