Eastern Iowa Honor Flight Takes Second Trip of 2021

The Eastern Iowa Honor Flight departed Cedar Rapids for Washington D.C. on its second trip of the year Tuesday.

The group of 87 veterans—including three veterans of World War II, 14 veterans of the Korean War, and 70 Veterans of the Vietnam War—departed for our nation’s capital from the Eastern Iowa Regional Airport early Tuesday morning. While visiting Washington, they are stopping by a number of other sites, including Arlington National Cemetery, the Korean War Memorial, and Vietnam War Memorial – and with three women veterans on Tuesday’s trip, they also prioritized a stop at the Women In Military Service For America Memorial.

Senator Ernst was among those who met with the group of veterans at the World War II Memorial on Tuesday. Ernst, who served during Operation Iraqi Freedom, is working to build a new memorial on the National Mall to honor the veterans of the Global War on Terrorism.

The Eastern Iowa Honor Flight took their first trip since the pandemic began on September 21st. Their third and final trip of the year will take place on October 19th.
