West Delaware has two contested school board races this year.
Ed Poynor, who serves as Director of District 2 on the school board, is not seeking re-election this fall. Three candidates running for his seat – Steve Buesing, Roni Hilby and David Grandon.
Steve Buesing and his wife, Abby, have been married for 21 years and he says they’ve called Manchester home for most of that time.
Buesing previously served on the school board and says he’d like to be part of it again.
Buesing says he has four main priorities if he’s elected.
Roni Hilby was born and raised in Independence and graduated from Wartburg College with a degree in Biology. She and her husband Rick moved to the West Delaware School District after getting married and she says they’ve been here ever since.
Hilby says she’s running for a seat on the West Delaware School Board because she feels it’s important to keep small town Iowa common sense in the decision making.
Hilby says if she’s elected, she has several priorities.
David Grandon and his wife moved to Manchester about five years ago, responding to a call from Community Congregational Church to be their pastor.
Grandon says he’s running for a seat on the school board because he enjoys kids.
Grandon says if elected to the West Delaware School Board, he’s ready to show his full support for the upcoming facility improvements. And he says one of his several priorities would also be to address bullying.
Election Day is next Tuesday, November 2nd. And in the week leading up to the election, we’ll continue to introduce you to the candidates in several contested races – including West Delaware School Board Director District 1, Dyersville Mayor and Manchester City Council.
