Manchester has one contested City Council race in this year’s election.
Council member Connie Behnken is running for Manchester mayor, which will leave the Council’s At-Large seat vacant.
Two candidates have filed to run for the position – Diane Hammell and Linda Schmitt.
Diane Hammell grew up in northeast Iowa and has been in Manchester for more than forty years.
Hammell says she was approached to run for the City Council.
Hammell says if she’s elected to the Manchester City Council, her priorities would be to listen, learn and ask questions.
Hammell will face Linda Schmitt in Tuesday’s city council race. Schmitt has lived in the Manchester area all of her life.
Schmitt says she’s running for City Council because she thinks the citizens have a big stake in this election.
Schmitt says there are several things she’d like to see accomplished if she’s elected.
