Western Dubuque Concert Ends Early After Handgun Magazine Found

A Western Dubuque school program ended early on Thursday night due to a report of a found handgun magazine.

The Dubuque County Sheriff’s Office says their department, along with the Farley and Peosta police departments, responded to Western Dubuque High School in Epworth around 7:30 pm for a report of a handgun magazine that was found with live ammunition. Western Dubuque Superintendent Rick Colpitts tells KMCH the handgun magazine was found in the high school auditorium, which is where the Dyersville Elementary School concert was taking place at the time.

As a precaution, Western Dubuque school officials ended the concert early and asked everyone to leave the school grounds.

An investigation revealed that no weapon ever entered Western Dubuque school property.

The Sheriff’s Office says there is no threat to the public or the schools.
