Authorities have identified the body pulled from the Wapsipinicon River in Quasqueton on Tuesday morning.
The Buchanan County Sheriff’s Office says the man has been identified as 80-year old Michael John Wheeler of Quasqueton.
The Sheriff’s Office says they received a 911 call shortly before 8:30 am from fishermen in the area, who reported a body in the river just north of the bridge in Quasqueton. Deputies, firefighters and EMS personnel responded to the scene and recovered Wheeler’s body from the river.
Wheeler’s body was transported to the State Medical Examiner’s Office in Ankeny for an autopsy. As of Thursday morning, his cause of death was not yet determined
The Sheriff’s Office says at this point, there is no reason to believe foul play is involved – but the incident remains under investigation.
