Alfred O. “Al” Hotchkiss, 77, of Lamont, Iowa, died on Thursday evening, November 18, 2021, at Unity Point-St. Luke’s Hospital in Cedar Rapids.
Funeral Service: 10:30 A.M. Monday, November 22, 2021, at Grace United Methodist Church, Lamont, with Pastor Lisa Schroeder officiating.
Visitation: 2:00 to 6:00 P.M. on Sunday and for one hour before the service on Monday at the Grace United Methodist Church in Lamont.
Interment: Campton-Oak Hill Cemetery, Lamont, Iowa.
Military Graveside Rights by the Aurora American Legion and the Army Honor Guard.
A Memorial Fund has been established for Common Grounds and the Iowa Honor Flight Program.

Alfred Orren Hotchkiss was born on June 25, 1944, in Manchester, Iowa, the son of Thomas Earl & Merle Madeline (Sliter) Hotchkiss. He received his education from the Lamont School. Al honorably served in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War. Al was united in marriage to Susan Jean Gibbs on June 21, 1969, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Lamont, Iowa. They made their home in Lamont and were blessed with a son, Cory. Al worked in Cedar Rapids for 42 years at Allis Chalmers, Harnischfeger P&H and PMX Industries as a machinist, retiring in 2010. Al and Cory were able to enjoy participating on an Honor Flight to Washington, D.C. on September 21, 2021. Al was a member of the Lamont City Council and was the Lamont Mayor for many years. He enjoyed spending time at Common Grounds where he could visit with many of his area friends. Al was a member of Grace United Methodist Church and the Aurora American Legion. He enjoyed bowling, golf, riding his motorcycle, attending tractor pulls, and cheering on his favorite teams, the St. Louis Cardinals, the Kansas City Chiefs and the Iowa Hawkeyes.
Al is survived by his wife of 52 years: Susy Hotchkiss of Lamont;
Son: Cory Hotchkiss (fiancée: Kristine Sharpe) of Cedar Rapids;
Grandson: Isaac Hotchkiss;
3 Step-Grandsons: Patrick, Chris & Marcus;
Sister: Wanda Kress-Deemer of Quasqueton and many nieces & nephews.
Al was preceded in death by his father & mother and his father-in-law & mother-in-law: Gilbert & Ethel Gibbs.
