HS Wrestling: Hawks Fall In Season Opener

It was a battle of top ranked teams inside the Seedorff Gymnasium last night that saw the Go-Hawks from Waverly-Shell Rock rack up seven pins on their way to a 49-21 win over West Delaware. Of the Go-Hawks nine match wins all but one resulted in bonus points as they got falls from Aidan Riggins at 160, McCrae Hagarty at 195, Jake Walker at heavyweight, Alex Hornyak at 106, Zane Behrends at 113, Carter Fecht at 132, and Ryder Block at 138 pounds and got a major decision from Robert Poyner at 152. West Delaware head coach Jeff Voss says that they will use the dual as a learning experience moving forward:

The Hawks had five wins on the night including pins from Will Ward at 182 and Wyatt Voelker at 220, and picked up decisions from Kyle Cole at 170 pounds, an overtime win from Carson Less at 120, and a 10-3 victory from Jax Miller at 126 pounds, and Voss says he liked the effort by those kids but he would like to see it up and down the lineup:

The Hawks will now shift their attention to the Bob Murphy Invitational tomorrow at the Seedorff Gym as they will welcome in some very good teams and some high quality individuals as well:

You can hear coverage of the Bob Murphy Invitational starting a little before 11:00 tomorrow with Roger Reed and Jamie Vaske on KMCH and on our KMCH Sports Video Stream at our website KMCH.com
