Saturday kicked off the tournament portion of the 2021-2022 high school wrestling season, and here is a look at how our area wrestlers did.
In Manchester: West Delaware won their 16th tournament title at their home tournament as they racked up 294 points to win the Bob Murphy Invitational. The Hawks had five champions as Carson Less, Brent Yonkovic, Logan Peyton, Kyle Cole and Wyatt Voelker all won individual titles. Maquoketa Valley finished in 10th place as they were led by Michael Schaul who was runner-up at 152 pounds, while the West Delaware JV team finished in 7th place and had one finalist as Ryan Hilby finished 2nd to teammate Carson Less at 120 pounds. In Independence: Independence finished 2nd as a team in their home two-day 28 team tournament. The Mustangs had three finalists in the tournament as Isaiah Weber, Marcus Beatty, and Brady McDonald all finished runner-up. Lisbon won the team title and were just 16 1/2 points ahead of the Mustangs. For complete results click HERE.
In Cascade: Starmont finished 2nd in the eight team Cascade Duals on Friday night going 4-1 on the night with wins over Cascade, Ed-Co, Washington, and Dubuque Wahlert with their only loss coming to the eventual champion MFL MarMac. Cascade finished in 5th place as they went 3-2, while Ed-Co finished 8th as they went 0-5 on the night. For complete results click HERE.
In Fairbank: Anamosa finished 5th at the Chris Davis Invitational hosted by Wapsie Valley which was won by Nashua-Plainfield. The Blue Raiders were led by Austin Scranton who won the 152 pound title. North Linn finished 8th as they had two champions with Blaine Baumgartner winning the 132 pound title and Landen Paul taking the crown at 182 pounds. For complete results click HERE.
In Monticello: Monticello finished in 4th place Saturday as they hosted Dan Guilford Invitational. The Panthers had three champions on the day with Ethan Long, Mark Sunlin, and Kale Hansen all winning their weight class. East Buchanan finished in 5th place and were led by Tanner Thurn who won the 152 pound title. Western Dubuque’s JV team finished in 8th place and had one champion in Max Clasen who won the 170 pound bracket. For complete results click HERE.
In Cedar Falls: Beckman finished 10th at the Keith Young Invitational hosted by Cedar Falls High School which was won by Don Bosco. The Blazers had two runner-up finishes with Conner Grover placing 2nd at 160 pounds and Owen Huehnergarth taking 2nd at 195 pounds. For complete results click HERE.
In Darlington (WI): Western Dubuque won the title at the 2021 Warbird Invitational hosted by Darlington High School in Wisconsin. The Bobcats finished with 223 points which was 46 points better than the host team Darlington/Black Hawk. They had 11 wrestlers reach the finals and came away with five champs in Logan Massey, Greyson Gardner, Evan Surface, Dakota Hoffman, and Brody Steger. For complete results click HERE.
