HS Wrestling: Saturday 12.11 Recap

It was another full weekend of high school wrestling tournaments around the state of Iowa, and here’s how our area teams did on Saturday.

In Calmar: Top ranked West Delaware crowned six champions as they downed 2nd ranked Osage in the South Winneshiek Invitational. The Hawks totaled 249 1/2 points which was 24 1/2 points better than the Green Devils as Brayden Maury, Carson Less, Blake Engel, Kyle Cole, Will Ward, and Wyatt Voelker all won titles for the Hawks who had 10 wrestlers reach the finals. The West Delaware JV team finished 7th in the 12-team field as all seven of their wrestlers finished in the top five of their respective weight classes. For complete results click HERE.

In Oelwein: Starmont won the team title at the 2021 Oelwein Invitational as they finished with 253 points which was 46 points better than 2nd place Monticello. The Stars had seven wrestlers reach the finals and came away with three champions as Jase Tommasin, Jacob Goedken, and Louis Hamlett all won titles. Monticello had six wrestlers in the finals as Kale Hansen was the lone champion for the Panthers, while Peyton Gaul and Dawson Bergan won titles for Ed-Co who finished the day in 7th place. In Clarence: Maquoketa Valley finished in 6th place, just ahead of the West Dubuque JV team in the 2021 North Cedar Invitational as they were led by Brady Davis who won the 220 pound title for the Wildcats. The Bobcats “Next Men In” had two finalists, with Drew Burds coming away with the crown at 152 pounds. North Linn finished in 8th place as Jarin Peyton led the Lynx with a runner-up finish at 160 pounds. For complete results click HERE.

In Epworth: Western Dubuque finished 2nd in the 2021 Bobcat duals as the host Bobcats went 4-1 in dual meets on the day, picking up wins over Beckman, Caledonia-Houston (MN), Cedar Rapids Kennedy, and Dakota (Ill) with their only loss coming to the champion Rams from Southeast Polk. Beckman finished in 3rd place going 2-2 as their wins came over Cedar Rapids Kennedy and Caledonia-Houston, with their losses coming to Western Dubuque and Bethalto (Civic Memorial) (Ill). In Mount Vernon: East Buchanan finished in 9th place at the Mount Vernon Invitational, crowning one champion in heavyweight Cody Fox. Cascade finished in 13th place and were led by Brock Morris, who finished runner-up at 106 pounds. For complete result click HERE.

In Tama: Independence went 5-0 to win the 2021 South Tama Duals. The Mustangs wins came against Pella, Vinton-Shellsburg, Des Moines East, Iowa City Regina, and South Tama. For complete results click HERE.

In Maquoketa: Anamosa finished in 2nd place at the 2021 Zimmerman Invitational hosted by Maquoketa High School. The Blue Raiders totaled 141 1/2 team points and were 2nd behind only Dubuque Hempstead who finished with 224. Anamosa was led by two champions as Easton Wheeler and Austin Scranton both won titles at their respective weight classes. For complete results click HERE.
