Eldon Bernard Heims, 85, of Manchester, Iowa, passed away on Thursday, December 23, 2021, at his home surrounded by his family. He was born on June 14, 1936, in Hopkinton, the son of Ben and Gertrude (Polfer) Heims.
Eldon was raised in the Delhi area and was a 1953 graduate of Delhi High School. After his graduation, he served honorably in the United States Army for two years.
On June 12, 1962, Eldon was united in marriage to Catherine “Katie” Hildebrand in St. Joseph Catholic Church in Earlville. Eight children were born to this union. The couple farmed together outside of Delhi. They raised dairy livestock and crops.
Eldon enjoyed woodworking, fixing equipment, and tinkering in his shop. He enjoyed playing cards with friends and family. Above all else, family was very important to him.
Survivors include his wife of 59 years, Katie Heims of Manchester; children, Ralph Heims of Manchester, Duane (Karlyn) Heims of Manchester, Melvin (Mary) Heims of Dyersville, Gina (Mike) Reth of Manchester, Joyce (Greg) Harris of Dubuque, Gerene (Ed) Gibbs of Earlville, Dale (Michelle) Heims of Delhi, and son-in-law, Randy Burkle of Earlville; 19 grandchildren, Greg Heims, Jill (Pat) Dillon, Blair (Zach) Schmitt, Troy Burkle, Brad (Korrin) Burkle, Becki (Adam) Nylund, Ashley Heims, Angie Heims, Dustin Heims, Adam (Taylor Berry) Reth, Kristy Reth, Kaitlyn (Oli Czarnecki) Reth, Brett Harris, Blake (Deidre Pitzen) Harris, Madison (Jett) Kuhens, Heath Gibbs, Eric (Morgan) Heims, Brian (Maya Burke) Heims, and Mitch Heims; nine great-grandchildren, Finley and Beckett Schmitt, Olivia and Reagan Nyland, Lena and Knox Burkle and Sean, Kathryn and Kellian Dillion; one brother, Loras (Celeste) Heims of Dundee; one sister, Yvonne(Ted) Wernimont of Iowa City; a sister-in-law, Mary Heims of Manchester; and many nieces and nephews.
Eldon was preceded in death by his parents; his daughter, Deb Burkle; and his four siblings, Marilyn (Joe) Langel, Adorine (Bob) Kaiser, Delbert Heims, and Carl (Rita) Heims.

Mass of Christian Burial: 10:30 a.m., on Friday, December 31, 2021, at St. John Catholic Church in Delhi with Rev. John Kremer officiating.
Visitation: 2:00 to 8:00 p.m., on Thursday, December 30, 2021, at St. John Catholic Church in Delhi. Friends may also call from 9:15 to 10:15 a.m., at the church on Friday.
