Maureen Evelyn Butler – Strawberry Point

Maureen Evelyn Butler, 87, of Strawberry Point, Iowa, passed away peacefully at her home following a brief illness on Christmas Day. She was surrounded by those who loved her most. She was born on May 4, 1934, in Vallejo, California, the daughter of Harvey and Colleen (Cline) Veech. Maureen started her education in Vallejo elementary and graduated from Memphis High School in Memphis, Missouri.

She was united in marriage to Archie Winn and three children were born to this union, Steven, Kevin and Kelly. They were later separated and Maureen married Charles Henry and John was born to this union. Maureen was a loving and hard-working mother who took great pride in single handily raising her children. On January 17, 1976, Maureen married Rex Butler in Memphis, Missouri. Rex passed away in June of 2001.

Over the years Maureen had many jobs but found her true gift as a bartender applying her ability to connect and relate to anyone. She had a zeal for life that was infectious. Among her many interests, she enjoyed playing cards, preparing meals for her family and friends, and in her younger years she had a passion for horses that stayed with her throughout her life.

She left behind two children who will miss her daily, her daughter, Kelly (Mike) Peterman of Strawberry Point and her son, John (Dawn) Henry of Cedar Grove, Wisconsin; eight grandchildren, Nicole Neswold, J’nae Peterman, Chase Peterman, Gabe Peterman, Brittney Scheidt, Nathan Henry, Ashley Engwall, and Alec Henry, who will miss the compassion and kindness of her heart. Eight great-grandchildren, Scout and Maximus Neswold, Finley, Olive, and Lettie Wallenburg, Gregory Jr. and Arya Scheidt, and Kasya Vozenilek, who will miss the opportunity to grow in her grace. A beloved niece, Sheryl Conner of West Covina, California and her “bestest” friend, Marian Roder.

Maureen was preceded in death by her parents, Harvey and Colleen Veech; two sisters, Peggy Blaine and Rosemary Shankman; and two sons, Kevin and Steven Winn.

Flowers are welcome, and a memorial fund has also been placed in her name to Black Hills Wild Horse Sanctuary in Fall River County, South Dakota.

Funeral Service: 11:30 a.m., on Thursday, December 30, 2021, at Community Bible Church in Strawberry Point, with Pastor Bruce Klett officiating.

Visitation: 10:00 to 11:00 a.m., on Thursday, December 30, 2021, at Community Bible Church in Strawberry Point, Iowa.
