Student Brought Handgun to St. Francis Xavier School in Dyersville

Dyersville Police are investigating after a student brought a gun to St. Francis Xavier School on Tuesday morning.
Police Chief Brent Schroeder says police were notified around 7:30 am that a Xavier elementary student might be in possession of a firearm on school grounds. The students was located and immediately detained by officers at the school prior to the start of the school day.
Police and school staff searched the student’s locker and located a handgun in the student’s backpack. No other weapons were found during the search.
The handgun was not displayed or used in a threatening manner – nor were any threats made.
The student was immediately removed from school grounds.
The incident remains under investigation.
