Delaware County Public Health Releases Latest COVID Stats

Delaware County Public Health has released its latest COVID-19 statistics.

As of Wednesday, Delaware County’s 7-day positivity rate was at 9.7% – up from last week’s rate of 8.4%. A total of 61 new cases were reported in the previous seven days – up from the 46 new cases reported the week before.

Delaware County Public Health is no longer providing the number of hospitalizations or deaths in their weekly reports. Their department says as of Wednesday, 73% of patients in Iowa who are hospitalized with COVID are unvaccinated and 27% are vaccinated.

Delaware County’s vaccine rate for ages 5 and up is at 55.6%, while Iowa’s overall vaccine rate is at 63.1%.

Delaware County Public Health says COVID continues to be present and spreading in our community. They are urging everyone to get vaccinated – and if eligible, to get the booster.

The CDC has expanded booster shot eligibility and now recommends adolescents ages 12 to 17 get a booster shot five months after their initial two-dose series. At this time, only the Pfizer COVID-19 vaccine is authorized and recommended for that age group.
