Deputy Injured in Coggon Shooting Presented with Key to the City

The deputy who was injured in a shooting in Coggon last summer has been honored with a Key to the City.

Last night, the City of Coggon presented the gift to Deputy Will Halverson in recognition of his bravery and commitment to Coggon’s citizens.

Deputy Halverson was shot multiple times while responding to a report of an armed robbery at Casey’s General Store along Highway 13 on June 20th. The shooter, 36-year old Stanley Donahue of Chicago, fled the scene and was taken into custody without incident the next day on the northeast side of town.

Coggon Mayor Travis Beckman says Deputy Halverson became Coggon’s hero the night of June 20th, 2021 – protecting them in their time of need and suffering multiple injuries while doing so. Mayor Beckman says the Key to the City reinforces that they support their hero and that he’s always welcome as an honorary Coggon citizen.

Deputy Halverson was presented the Key to the City during a special ceremony before the Coggon City Council meeting on Tuesday night. A number of guests were on hand to recognize his efforts, including members of the Coggon Fire Department.
