Dean Lloyd Puffett – Strawberry Point

Dean Lloyd Puffett passed away at the age of 71 on Friday, January 14, 2022. He was born on October 19, 1950, in Oelwein, Iowa, to Lloyd and Wilma (Ash) Puffett. He was baptized June 10, 1951, and confirmed at Volga United Methodist Church. Dean was a 1968 Starmont graduate and completed an electronics degree in 1970 at Dunwoody Industrial Institute in Minneapolis, Minnesota.
Dean was united in marriage to Connie Lee Glass on June 20, 1970, at St. John Lutheran Church in Arlington. They lived in Ames while Connie finished her teaching degree and Dean worked at Kelso Radio and TV. In 1971, they moved to the Puffett family farm north of Strawberry Point. Dean farmed for more than 50 years. The farm received Century Farm designation in 2020. After returning to the farm, Dean operated his own tv sales and service business for 27 years. His love of livestock and herd health influenced him to start his own livestock mineral feed business, which he ran for almost ten years.
As a child, Dean enjoyed riding horses. He traveled around the country on several family trips with Connie and their children. Dean enjoyed numerous adventures with his grandchildren from tractor and gator rides on the farm to attending their sporting events. He had an amazing memory and could often recall happenings years prior on a given day. He loved to discuss farming with everyone.
Dean was a founding member of Mission in Christ in Strawberry Point. His faith in God carried him through many medical challenges. He often said, “My life is in God’s hands.”
Dean is survived by his high school sweetheart and loving wife of 51 years, Connie Puffett of Strawberry Point; four children, Jennifer (Matthew) Miller of Boise, Idaho, Sandra (Jason) Karst of Fond du Lac, Wisconsin, Ann (Kurt) Schmitz of Jesup, and Douglas (Anne) Puffett of Strawberry Point; ten grandchildren, Jacob and Jack Karst, Samantha, David, Kelli and Tyler Schmitz, Noah Lang, Sarah and Isaac Puffett, and Derek Miller; three sisters, Darlene (Harlan) Hickle, Irene (Bill) Stocks, and Joan (Jay) Thomas; sisters-and brother-in-law, Sharon (Allen) Reed, Larry (Karen) Glass, and Judy (Dean) Meisner; and numerous nieces and nephews.
