HS Wrestling: West Delaware Sweeps WaMaC Double Dual

Seven senior wrestlers were recognized at the Seedorff Gymnasium as West Delaware swept a WaMaC Conference double dual beating Vinton-Shellsburg 57-24 and Beckman 71-3. The first dual of the night saw Beckman battle back from a 15-0 deficit and come away with a win in a back and forth dual over Vinton-Shellsburg 39-27. The Blazers won seven of the 12 matches that were wrestled and had two falls on their way to the win.

After recognizing the West Delaware Mini-Hawk wrestlers West Delaware fell behind 12-0 to Vinton-Shellsburg after two straight falls to start the dual, but battled back to win 10 of the final 12 matches and cruised to a 57-24 victory.

The Hawks then recognized senior cheerleader Alexis McTaggart, senior administrative assistant Emma Miller, and seven senior wrestlers which are Kyle Cole, Blake Engel, Isaac Fettkether, Cody Monaghan, Jadyn Peyton, TJ Soppe, and Wyatt Voelker. In the final dual of the night West Delaware jumped out to a 34-0 lead over Beckman with three pins, two forfeits, and a major decision before the Blazers got on the board with Jason Koopman 2-1 win over Cameron Guether. The Hawks went on to win the final seven matches including a 7-4 win by 12th ranked freshman Jax Miller over 6th ranked Blazer senior Nick Schmidt to finish off a 71-3 win. West Delaware head coach Jeff Voss has been stressing scoring a lot of points with the team, and thought they did a good job of that in last night’s duals:

This year’s seniors are now 77-7 in dual meets and Voss says that their willingness to continue to work hard every day to be better than they were the day before will be this class’ legacy:
