Voters in Peosta will be choosing a new mayor today.
Mayor Jim Merten resigned a few days before the election last November. But it was too late to take Merten’s name off the ballot and he was re-elected. He resigned again a few days later, noting in a letter to the Peosta City Council that he was experiencing increased demands in his professional career that weren’t likely to end anytime soon.
A special election is being held today to elect a new mayor. One candidate, Russ Pfab, has filed to run.
Polls will be open from 7 am to 8 pm at the Peosta Community Center.
