Peosta residents elected a new mayor on Tuesday.
Russ Pfab received 57 votes. He was the lone candidate on the ballot, with six write-in votes also received. Under 5% of Peosta’s eligible 1,353 voters participated in the special election.
The previous mayor, Jim Merten, resigned last fall – twice. Merten announced his resignation a few days before the November election, but his name still appeared on the ballot due to the short notice and he was re-elected. He resigned again a few days after the election, noting in a letter to the Peosta City Council that he was experiencing increased demands in his professional career that weren’t likely to end anytime soon.
