Catherine Marie Starry – Strawberry Point

Catherine Marie Starry, 85, of Strawberry Point, Iowa, passed away on Friday, January 28, 2022, at Mercy Hospital in Dubuque, Iowa. She was born on February 27,1936, in Central City, the daughter of Lester and Leila (Taylor) Fleming.  Catherine was raised and educated in the Central City area graduating from Central City High School in 1954.

On November 28, 1954, Catherine was united in marriage to Harold Starry at Central City.  Eight children were born to this union. Catherine was a true farm wife, helping to run a dairy farm with Harold between Strawberry Point and Edgewood.  She also worked various off the farm jobs through the years. Catherine was an active 4-H leader and judge and was a co-founder of the Ed-Co FFA Alumni organization.

Catherine enjoyed hand quilting, sewing, crafts and gardening.  She enjoyed collecting thimbles, gnomes as well as various other items. Catherine enjoyed spending her time with her family, especially her grandchildren.

Survivors include her husband, Harold Starry; their five children, Shevonne Starry of Dubuque, Sheila (Paul) Miller of Glendale, Arizona, Karen (Jim Corrigan) Colton of Glendale, Arizona, Teresa (Curt) Starry-Bussler of Glencoe, Minnesota,  and Lester (Lori) Starry of Marion; her seven grandchildren, Megan Basler, David Miller, Nicholas Miller, Kayla Colton, Kirsten Barott, Brianna Starry and Caleb Starry; one great-grandchild with one on the way; her three sisters, Susan Lucas of Cedar Rapids, Doris (Howdy) House of Manchester and Donna Smith of Anamosa; her two brothers, Duane Fleming of  Texas, and Steve (Marsha) Fleming of Lamont; and many nieces and nephews.

Catherine was preceded in death by her parents; her parents-in-law, Harlan and Cuba Starry; her three children in infancy; her son-in-law, James Colton; two brothers, Lester “Joe” Fleming and Albert Fleming; many brothers and sisters-in law and many nieces and nephews.

Funeral Service:   11:00 a.m., on Wednesday, February 2, 2022, at Leonard-Muller Funeral Home in Manchester, Iowa, with Reverend Phil Rogers officiating.

Visitation:  9:00 to 10:45 a.m., on Wednesday, February 2, 22022, at Leonard-Muller Funeral Home in Manchester, Iowa.

Interment:  Mt. Clark Cemetery – Central City, Iowa
