Around a dozen local non-profits are getting some help from the Greater Delaware County Community Foundation.
Several non-profit organizations have been chosen for McGee Barr Grants. The Delaware County Food Bank is receiving $6,000, with Second Helpings and Helping Services for Youth and Families each receiving $5,000. West Delaware’s Back to School Fair has been awarded $4,000, the Franklin Street Underground Youth Center is getting $3,000 and Operation Santa Claus and Lutheran Services in Iowa will each get $2,500. Other McGree Barr Grant recipients include the Good Neighbor Society, West Delaware’s Book Fair, the Clothing Closet and First Presbyterian Church’s Birthday Bags.
And $2,500 in Harlo Coon Grants has been awarded to the Good Neighbor Society to benefit the Good Neighbor Home and The Meadows.
The foundation uses funds left by Garrett McGee to fund the McGee Barr Grants to organizations that help the poor of Delaware County, while the other funds support the Harlo Coon Grants for organizations that serve the county’s elderly residents.
Chairman Jack Klaus says they’re expecting to hand out more grants later this year.
