Saturday marked the beginning of the postseason for area class 1A and 2A wrestling teams as they competed in sectionals. The top two place winners in each weight class advance to next Saturday’s district tournaments, along with the champions of each sectional and the next eight ranked teams advancing to regional duals which will be this Tuesday for a chance to qualify for the State Duals. Here’s a look at the area district qualifiers and the regional dual pairings.
In Manchester: West Delaware scored 292 points and qualified 12 wrestlers to districts as they won the class 2A sectional they hosted at the Seedorff Gymnasium. In Tuesday’s regional dual the Hawks will await the winner of the dual between WaMaC foes South Tama and Mount Vernon as they host the two teams in Manchester. The 12 district qualifiers for the Hawks are Brayden Maury, Carson Less, Jax Miller, Blake Engel, Brent Yonkovic, Carson Turnis, Logan Peyton, Jadyn Peyton, Will Ward, Wyatt Voelker, Sawyer Falck, and Cameron Guether. Anamosa finished in 4th place and had three district qualifiers in Easton Wheeler, Dalton Soper, and Cole Sigler, while Monticello finished in 5th place and also had three wrestlers advance in Ethan Long, Jonah Luensman, and Kale Hansen. In Independence: The Mustangs will host Williamsburg and Ballard on Tuesday for a class 2A regional dual as they advanced nine wrestlers to districts and won the class 2A sectional they hosted, finishing with 225 points which was just 11 points better than New Hampton/Turkey Valley who was the runner-up. Tanner Wilson, Kaden Kremer, Tyler Wieland, Carter Straw, Isaiah Weber, Dalton Hoover, Mitch Johnson, Marcus Beatty, and Brady McDonald will all wrestle in the district meet next Saturday. In Monona: Beckman finished 2nd and qualified for a class 1A regional dual as they finished 2nd at the MFL MarMac sectional and qualified six wrestlers to districts. On Tuesday the Blazers will face New London in the regional dual semifinal, and the winner of that dual will take on Lisbon in the final. The six Blazers that moved on were Jake Schmidt, Nick Schmidt, Conner Grover, Levi Feldman, Owen Huehnergarth, and Jason Koopman. East Buchanan finished 3rd in the sectional and had four wrestlers advance in Sam Cook, Tanner Thurn, Carter Wilgenbusch, and Cody Fox. Maquoketa Valley also had four district qualifiers as they finished in 4th place, as Michael Schaul, Aiden Salow, Nathan Bietz, and Brady Davis all qualified for the Wildcats. In Wilton: North Linn finished in 5th place as Blaine Baumgartner, Cael Bridgewater, Jarin Peyton, and Landen Paul all advanced to districts. For complete results click HERE.
In Arlington: Starmont finished in 2nd place as they hosted a class 1A sectional and they qualified six wrestlers to districts. The six Stars moving on to districts are Lane German, Avery Vaske, Henry Hayes, Bowen Munger, Jacob Goedken, and Louis Hamlett. Although they finished 2nd in the sectional they were not selected to wrestle in the regional duals. Ed-Co finished in 7th place and sent two wrestlers to districts as Marcus Gaul and Dawson Bergan both finished runner-up in their bracket’s. For complete results click HERE.
