Lance Edward Billhorn – Manchester

Lance Edward Billhorn, 71, of Manchester, Iowa, passed away on Sunday, February 6, 2022, at his home, to be with his beautiful wife, MarJean, on their 46th wedding anniversary. He was born on February 15, 1950, in Manchester, the son of Victor and Grace Eileen (Utley) Billhorn. Lance was raised and educated in Manchester and was a 1968 graduate of Manchester High School.  He served honorably in the United States Army during the Vietnam conflict.

On February 6, 1976, Lance was united in marriage to MarJean Weigel. Two daughters, Sara and Kathy, were born to this union. Lance rejoined the army and the family resided in El Paso, Texas, the Netherlands, and Virginia. After his honorable discharge from the Army, the family moved back to Manchester. Lance worked for the Department of Human Services for 28 years.

Lance enjoyed many family vacations through the years, especially ones that involved fishing. He enjoyed reading a good book and watching a good movie. Lance loved taking care of his yard and home and spending time with his family and friends. Most of all Lance enjoyed spending time with his wife, Marjean, and Sara, Kathy, Nick, Kayci and Lukas. He had a great sense of humor and quick wit that made those around him laugh for hours. Lance loved giving his daughters and grandchildren his fatherly advice.

Survivors include his daughters; his son-in-law, Nick Letts, of Manchester; his grandchildren; three siblings, Steve (Wilma) Billhorn of Manchester, Susan (Jerry) Lee of Masonville, and Alan (Diana) Billhorn of Des Moines; sisters-in-law, Donna Billhorn of Prairie Du Sac, Wisconsin, LuAnn McQuillen of Manchester, LaVonne “Lovey” Guetzko of Olathe, Kansas, and Deb Weigel of Manchester; a brother-in-law, Joe (Anna) Weigel of Manchester; and many nieces and nephews.

Lance was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, MarJean Billhorn; his brother, John Billhorn; a brother-n-law, Don “Tiny” Weigel; and two sisters-in-law, Marilyn Corcoran and Kathy Gorkow.

One of Lance’s final requests, was that in lieu of gifts and plants, fresh flowers be provided or donate to your favorite charity.

Funeral Service:    11:00 a.m., on Friday, February 11, 2022, at Leonard-Muller Funeral Home in Manchester, Iowa, with Rev. Jill Mack officiating.

Visitation:   4:00 to 8:00 p.m., on Thursday, February 10, 2022, at Leonard-Muller Funeral Home in Manchester. Friends may also call 10:00 to 11:00 a.m., Friday, February 11, 2022 at the funeral home.

Interment with Military Rites:   Oakland Cemetery – Manchester, Iowa
