Beverly Ann Nunn – Strawberry Point

Beverly Ann Nunn, 87, of Strawberry Point, Iowa, passed away on Sunday, February 6, 2022, at the Vinton Lutheran Home in Vinton. She was born on January 3, 1935, in Maynard, the daughter of Arthur and Dorothy (Fleming) Thompson. Bev was raised and educated in the area and was a 1953 graduate of Maynard High School.  As an adult, Bev moved and lived in California working at a bank in Downey, California, for thirty years.

On February 12, 1972, Bev was united in marriage to James A. Nunn in California.  She later moved back to Iowa and was a member of Emanuel Lutheran Church in Strawberry Point. Bev was active in Lioness Club, PEO, Red Hats, and church. Bev took great pride in the years that she spent as the treasurer for Emanuel Lutheran Church. Bev volunteered her time at the Lutheran Home in Strawberry Point, assisting with various activities and decorating bulletin boards for special occasions. She also maintained the records and organized the delivery of Meals on Wheels in the Strawberry Point area. When Bev was able to drive, she drove others to doctor appointments, grocery shopping, and to various events. In 2003 Bev was honored by the State of Iowa, she received the Iowa Volunteer Award for her community service.  She was generous and giving with her support of various charities. In her final act of giving, Bev was a tissue donor.

Bev enjoyed spending time with her dog, Marvin, and collecting snowmen. She loved all animals but in her heart were beloved pets, Baby, Holly, Snowball, and Marvin. Bev was a huge fan of Elvis Presley. She enjoyed spending time on the computer. Her favorite holidays were Christmas and Easter. She enjoyed showing guests her Christmas village display and her Barbie collection. Bev often shared memories of her trips to Disneyland, when she lived in California.

Survivors include her siblings, Paul Thompson of Tucson, Arizona, and Sue (Doug) Rau of Thornton, Colorado; her adopted family, Theresa (Otto) Luker of Urbana; their three children, Kari (Andy) Waterman, Mikhail (Emily) Schwartzel, and Amanda Heyward; and a very special blessing and light of her life, Korryn Heyward.

Bev was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, James Nunn; her brother, David (Sandy) Thompson; a sister-in-law, Holly Thompson; her stepfather, Leonard Quijada; and her stepmother, Mardelle Thompson.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to ASPCA Animal Rescue or Emanuel Lutheran Church.

Funeral Service:   11:00 a.m., on Saturday, February 12, 2022, at Emanuel Lutheran Church in Strawberry Point, with Rev. Jerome Godson, officiating.

Visitation:  10:00 to 11:00 a.m., on Saturday, February 12, 2022, at Leonard-Muller Funeral Home in Strawberry Point, Iowa.

Interment:  Long Grove Cemetery – Maynard, Iowa
