Do you have a farm that’s been in your family for generations? You could be eligible for a special award.
The awards are known as the Century and Heritage Farm Awards – created by the Iowa Department of Agriculture and Land Stewardship and the Iowa Farm Bureau Federation. Families who have owned their farms for at least 100 years are eligible for the Century Award and families who have owned their farms for at least 150 years are eligible for the Heritage Award.
More than 20,000 Iowa farms have been recognized as Century Farms since the program started in 1976. Another 1,500 farms have been recognized as Heritage Farms.
If you’d like to apply, you can download the application on the Department’s website at iowaagriculture.gov/century-and-heritage-farm-program.
Applications may also be requested from Kelley Reece, coordinator of the Century and Heritage Farm Program, at 515-281-3645 or [email protected]. Written requests can be mailed to Century or Heritage Farm Program, Iowa Department of Agriculture and Land Stewardship, Wallace State Office Building, 502 E. Ninth St., Des Moines, IA 50319.
