HS Wrestling: Area Teams Compete In Regional Duals

Three area teams will vie for a chance to advance to next Wednesday’s State Dual Tournament at the Wells Fargo Arena in Des Moines as they compete in regional duals tonight.

West Delaware will begin their journey on becoming just the 4th team in state history to win four straight dual titles as they would join Don Bosco who won six straight from 2005-2010, West Des Moines Dowling who also won six straight from 1987-1992, and Davenport Assumption who won four in a row from 2011-2014. The Hawks will host 17th ranked Mount Vernon who’s 21-5 and 20-3, 19th ranked South Tama into the Seedorff Gymnasium as the two teams will meet in the semifinal with the winner to face top ranked West Delaware who is 18-3 in the regional dual final. West Delaware is looking to make their 5th straight appearance in the state duals and 12th all-time as they have four state titles in those trips.

Independence will look to make their 4th straight appearance to the state duals and 12th in program history as they welcome in 14th ranked Williamsburg who is 22-5 and 21st ranked Ballard who comes in 17-8 who will meet in the semifinal for a chance to meet the 3rd ranked Mustangs in the final.

The 17th ranked Beckman Blazers who are 13-10 on the year look to make their second ever trip to the State Duals and first since 1999 as they will be in Lisbon to face 18th ranked New London who enters with a 9-13 record in the regional dual semifinal. The winner of that dual will face 15-1 2nd ranked Lisbon in the dual final.

Coverage of the regional dual at West Delaware will get underway around 7:10 with Roger Reed and Jamie Vaske on Mix 94.7 KMCH and the KMCH App, and they will also have updates from Independence and Lisbon.
