A Linn County inmate escaped from custody on Tuesday.
The Linn County Sheriff’s Office says 34-year old Tyler Deemer of Cedar Rapids assaulted a Sheriff’s Deputy during a routine medical transport. He then fled on foot from the area of the 900 block of 8th Avenue Southeast in Cedar Rapids around 1 pm.
Deemer was spotted by residents in his orange jail uniform in handcuffs and leg restraints. Residents reported that he stole a vehicle from the 900 block of 10th Street Southeast.
About an hour later, deputies spotted Deemer in the stolen vehicle in the area of Robins Roads and Boyson Road in Hiawatha. Law enforcement pursued his vehicle westbound on Boyson Road and he eventually put the vehicle in the ditch on Carpenter Road near Indian Road Northeast and fled on foot. He was captured by officers after a brief foot chase around 2 pm.
Deemer had been incarcerated in the Linn County Correctional Center since December 30th on a $50,000 bond for First Degree Burglary, along with several weapons and theft charges. He now face additional charges, including First Degree Robbery, Assault on a Peace Officer and Escape from Custody.
