Alys LaVon Henderson – Manchester

Alys LaVon Henderson, 98, of Manchester, Iowa, passed away on Wednesday, March 9, 2022, at the Good Neighbor Home in Manchester. She was born on April 9, 1923, in Washta, the daughter of Augusta and Maude (Munson) Prange. Alys attended grade school in Washta and Cherokee, and high school in Wall Lake and Manchester, graduating from Manchester.

In 1942, Alys was united in marriage to George Henderson in Manchester.  Three children were born to this union. George passed away in 1971.  In 1972 Alys started working at U.S. West (NW Bell) now Century Link for 10 years in Cedar Rapids. She continued working with the company for another six years in Des Moines.  Alys retired in 1988 and returned to Manchester in 1989.

Alys was a member of Our Savior Lutheran Church and the Telephone Pioneers. She volunteered at the Good Neighbor Home, various church activities, the senior center and the hospital.  Alys’s prized possessions were her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.

Survivors include her children, Jerry (Linda) Henderson of Fort Dodge, Karen (James) Lund of Estero, Florida, and
Doug Henderson of Manchester; six grandchildren, Sheri (Kevin) VanBerkum, Debbie Henderson and Richard
Henderson, Jamie and Jason (Peggy) Lund, and Matt (Jill) Henderson; six great-grandchildren, Kahmeron and
Kooper Henderson, Niel and Keara Lund, and Jayden and Katie Van Berkum.

Alys was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, George Henderson, and her three brothers, Paul Prange, John Prange and Donald Prange.

Graveside Service:  10:00 a.m., Friday, March 11, 2022 at Oakland Cemetery in Manchester, Iowa with Reverend Dave Weber presiding.
