Voluntary Embargo on Delaware County’s Gravel Roads

It’s that time of year when gravel roads are starting to soften – and because of that, Delaware County has announced a voluntary embargo.

County Engineer Anthony Bardgett says they’re asking drivers to limit travel on the county’s gravel roads to give them a chance to heal. They recommend travel in the early mornings when roads are still frozen.

Crews won’t be laying down new rock on any gravel roads in Delaware County just yet. Bardgett says the Secondary Roads Department will attempt to fix areas that are a danger to the public, but they won’t start normal maintenance activities until heavy equipment is able to access roads on a routine basis.

The voluntary embargo is usually implemented every spring.
