Dundee Man Charged with Being Prohibited Person in Possession of Firearm

A Dundee man has been charged with being a prohibited person in possession of a firearm.
An indictment alleges that in May 2021, 43-year old Matthew Welcher possessed a rifle after having been convicted of two felonies and a misdemeanor crime of domestic violence and while he was subject to a no-contact order.
If convicted, Welcher faces a possible maximum sentence of ten years in prison, a $250,000 fine and three years on supervised release following any imprisonment.
Welcher appeared for a detention hearing in federal court in Cedar Rapids on Friday and was held without bond. His next appearance for trial is set for May 9th.
