Fairbank Police Chief Mike Everding Passes Away

The community of Fairbank is mourning the loss of their police chief.

Chief Mike Everding passed away on Saturday after a long battle with cancer. He was 58.

Everding started his law enforcement career as a Reserve Deputy Sheriff with the Linn County Sheriff’s Office. He then served as a Deputy Sheriff in Fayette County and later became the Fairbank Police Chief in 2020. 

He also served three terms as the mayor of Stanley.

Chief Everding will be laid to rest today. His funeral service will be held at 10:30 at Zion Lutheran Church in Oelwein, followed by a funeral procession to St. Matthew’s Cemetery north of Readlyn.
