4-Hers from Delaware, Clayton & Fayette Counties Travel to Washington D.C.

Nearly fifty youth and adults representing the 4-H program in Delaware, Clayton and Fayette counties recently participated in a week-long 4-H Citizenship experience.

The Northeast Iowa Citizenship Program Citizenship Regional Focus is for middle school and high school 4-H members. Youth participated in a two-year program, which culminated in a seven-day trip to Springfield, IL, Gettysburg, PA and Washington, D.C.

During the week, program participants visited national landmarks including the Abraham Lincoln Presidential Museum & Tomb, Gettysburg, the U.S. Capitol and Arlington National Cemetery.

While in Washington D.C., the 4-H participants also had the opportunity to meet with Iowa’s two U.S. Senators, Chuck Grassley and Joni Ernst.

ISU Extension & Outreach says this 4-H program enriches young people’s lives by expanding their appreciation and respect for themselves and others in the world.
