Xavier Students Raise Money for Ukraine

The 6th graders at St. Francis Xavier Elementary in Dyersville have come together to raise money to help Ukraine.

The students had been praying daily for those affected by the crisis, but they also wanted to show their monetary support – so each student wrote a persuasive letter to Principal Peter Smith, asking if there could be a schoolwide out-of-dress-code day to raise money for the needs of those in Ukraine. The 6th graders did their research about what supplies are most needed and what organizations would be the most responsible with the money they’d send them – and included that in their letters to Principal Smith.

So, Principal Smith agreed to a schoolwide Out of Dress Code Day on April 1st – with the students encouraged to wear the Ukrainian colors of blue and yellow – and that one day raised well over $2,000.

Xavier’s 6th graders are sending that money they raised to the World Central Kitchen to help with the humanitarian efforts in Ukraine.
