Janice Eileen Klaus – Colesburg

Janice Eileen Klaus, 85, of Colesburg, Iowa, passed away on Wednesday, April 13, 2022. She was born on September 9, 1936, in Manchester, the daughter of Loren and Sarah (Shaw) Herman.  Janice was raised and educated in Earlville until she moved to Colesburg. She was a graduate of Colesburg High School. After graduation, Janice worked as a telephone operator where she met her future husband, Evert.

On October 14, 1956, Janice was united in marriage to Evert Klaus at the Zion Methodist Church in rural Colesburg. Three children were born to this union. Janice worked as a cook for the Edgewood-Colesburg Schools for many years. She was a 4-H Leader of the Colony Co-Workers. For many years, Janice helped Evert with their insurance business. She was Evert’s loving caregiver throughout their marriage.

Janice was a longtime faithful member of Zion Methodist Church in rural Colesburg, where she was a Sunday school teacher, and later attended Colesburg United Methodist Church. She enjoyed her monthly lunch out with some of her classmates. Janice was a former member of the Colesburg Rebeka Lodge and Order of Eastern Star. She liked playing cards and dominoes and doing word searches.  Janice enjoyed her Saturday afternoon car rides with her daughter and son-in-law. She liked dancing and listening to polka music, especially Mollie B. and Leo Greco. Janice loved her family and especially enjoyed spending time with them.

Survivors include her three children, Tom (Sandy) Klaus of Colesburg, Gayle (Gary) Kennedy of Cedar Rapids, and Amy Klaus of Plymouth, Minnesota; two grandsons, Eric (Emily) Klaus and Ben (Sophie) Klaus; five great-grandchildren; two brothers, Vincent (Betty) Herman of Earlville and Larry Herman of Cedar Rapids; one sister, Paulette (John) Mueller of Dubuque; a sister-in-law, Carol Herman of Manchester; and many nieces and nephews.

Janice was preceded in death by her parents; her husband Evert; a brother, Rodney Herman; and five sisters, Phyllis Thibadeau, Donna Harris, Virginia “Ginger” Ball, Nancy Herman, and Mary “Jackie” Troester.

Funeral Service: 10:30 a.m., on Tuesday, April 19, 2022, at the United Methodist Church in Colesburg, Iowa, with Pastor Roger White officiating.

Visitation:  3:00 to 7:00 p.m., on Monday, April 18, 2022, at Leonard-Muller Funeral Home in Edgewood, Iowa. Friends may also call one hour before the service at the church on Tuesday.

Interment:  Zion Cemetery – rural Colesburg, Iowa
