The Linn County Board of Supervisors is awarding its first round of funding from the American Rescue Plan Act.
Those dollars from the federal government are meant to speed up the United States’ recovery from the economic and health effects caused by the COVID-19 pandemic.
Linn County is receiving a total of $44 million in ARPA funding in two installments. Round One funding includes $11 million for lost revenue and administrative costs incurred by Linn County and $11 million that Linn County is making available for other local governments and non-profits through a competitive application process.
That $11 million will be split, with $5.5 million going towards affordable housing, social services, public health, capital investments and negative economic impacts from COVID (Category A). Some of those recipients include Hawkeye Area Community Action Program for affordable housing expansion and Together We Achieve’s food box giveaway and hot meals.
The other $5.5 million will go towards water and sewer infrastructure projects in Linn County (Category D). Some of those recipients include the City of Central City for Marion Road South Street improvements and the City of Coggon for their water main infrastructure project.

Linn County has not yet announced their application period for Round Two of funding – but all eligible applicants from Round One who weren’t funded will automatically be considered in the second round.
