Fire Destroys House in Petersburg

A fire destroyed a house in Petersburg on Thursday.

It happened at 3007 160th Street – two houses east of The Big House.

Dyersville Fire Chief Jeremy Honkomp says his department was called out shortly before 5 pm, with fire departments from Earlville, New Vienna, Colesburg and Delaware also responding.

The home is owned by Nick Pasker. A family member tells KMCH five people were home when the fire broke out, with everyone making it out safely. Chief Honkomp says Pasker’s wife and young son were transported to the hospital to be evaluated for smoke inhalation and were treated and released.

The house was a total loss. Honkomp says the cause of the fire is still undetermined, but he believes it may have been an electrical issue.

Firefighters were on the scene until shortly after 10 pm Thursday night.

The Delaware County Sheriff’s Office and BiCounty Ambulance also assisted.
