An inmate died at the Anamosa State Penitentiary on Monday.
The Iowa Department of Corrections says 31-year old Anthony Spurgeon was pronounced dead around 9 am due to an apparent suicide.
Spurgeon had been serving a 15-year maximum term for the crime of Habitual Offender and other charges from Wapello County. His sentence began in August 2018.
The department says they’ll investigate his death as they do for all suspected suicides within their correctional facilities.
